“To share a PT Zone that supports the autonomies of DeafBlind & sighted participants through the arts of touch.”
~ Jasper Norman & Yashaira Romilus
Jasper Norman and Yashaira Romilus were Tactile Communications, LLC (Tc) students. They were required to complete a community project as part of their training goals which was inspired by their passion for Protactle (PT) and Theatre. With many hours invested into their passions, they overcame many obstacles and stigmas as DeafBlind artists.
On October 20, 2017, the establishment of Protactile Theatre™ shared an experimental PT Play that made a historic impact in the PT movement in Seattle, WA. Four DeafBlind patrons experienced a PT translation of the “The Gift of the Magi” PT Play through touch and they understood the story’s message! A new perspective on theatre arts through PT has emerged and pushed the curiosity of others to crave the experience to touch a PT Play as well. With a generous sponsorship and demands of another PTT opportunity, we were able to host the same PT Play again on May 18-20, 2018 in Seattle, WA for those who missed the experimental PT Play. After that, the PTT Team has hosted and affiliated numerous creative PT Plays in several states and the PTT energy continues to spread like wildfire nationally & internationally.
